Eels are known to live in both freshwater and saltwater environments. They can be found in rivers, lakes, estuaries, and oceans around the world. **

No, river eels are not poisonous. They are safe to eat and are a popular food source in many cultures around the world. However, it is important to note that some species of eels, such as the moray eel, can produce toxic substances in their skin and mucus, which can cause irritation or illness if handled improperly. Overall, river eels are not inherently poisonous to humans. **

Eels can be found in both deep and shallow water, depending on the species. Some eel species prefer to live in deep ocean waters, while others inhabit shallow coastal areas, estuaries, and rivers. Eels are known for their ability to adapt to various environments, allowing them to thrive in a wide range of water depths. **

Yes, there are freshwater moray eels. These eels can be found in various freshwater habitats such as rivers, lakes, and streams in regions like South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Freshwater moray eels have adapted to living in freshwater environments and have different behaviors and diets compared to their saltwater counterparts. They are known for their elongated bodies and powerful jaws, and they play an important role in their freshwater ecosystems. **

Leopard eels are known by marine biologists, ichthyologists, and researchers who study marine life. They have knowledge about the habitat, behavior, and characteristics of leopard eels. Additionally, aquarium enthusiasts and hobbyists who keep marine fish may also have some knowledge about leopard eels due to their popularity in the aquarium trade. **

Eels lay their eggs in the ocean. **

Eels spawn in saltwater because their larvae, known as leptocephali, require the specific salinity and chemical composition of saltwater to survive and develop properly. Additionally, saltwater provides a more suitable environment for eel eggs to hatch and for the young eels to grow and mature before eventually migrating to freshwater habitats. **

European eels are known for their long migrations, with adults traveling thousands of kilometers from their freshwater habitats to the Sargasso Sea to spawn. They are nocturnal and primarily feed on small fish, crustaceans, and insects. European eels are also known to be solitary and secretive, often hiding in crevices or burrowing in the substrate during the day. Additionally, they have a unique ability to adapt to a wide range of habitats, from freshwater rivers and lakes to brackish estuaries and even the open ocean. **
